Importance of focusing on practicing Dharma moment by moment

Good evening, everyone!
So, today is Buddha Shakyamuni’s birthday.
This morning, we did the life release. I heard that all students were very, very focused on the puja this morning. I am pleased [about this]. Thanks so much to all of you.
This evening, many students joined our Medicine Buddha puja here. It is very, very wonderful.
So, Dharma practice is very, very important for us because our monkey mind is jumping to so many bad emotions and five poisons. Many people’s mind is jumping to their jobs and the need to take care of their families and friends. Then something always happens when working for the company and staying with the family [too].
When someone is doing something, talking about something, and looking at something, our mind would jump to there as well.
Our monkey mind not only jumps, but it also jumps to the negative side.
At that time, the monkey mind is thinking like: others are doing bad things to me; others may be talking bad things about me; others look at me for doing bad things to me.
The monkey mind also thinks that, ‘I cannot do anything.’ ‘I am very poor.’ ‘I am not rich.’ ‘My money is not enough.’ It is jumping like that.
The monkey mind always worries, feels scared, hopes, and fears. When it continues, it becomes very sensitive.
Then, when someone does some little bad things, some small mistakes, or something wrong, you cannot counter your emotion. You may get angry and feel uncomfortable. It is very easy for such situations to happen.
Some bad energy and bad air will move in your body at that time. You will feel very uncomfortable for a whole day. You will become tired very easily. Then, when you slowly cannot counter, you will need to talk about some bad things to other people.
Why?
It is because the strong, bad emotions are too much that one cannot counter. You will also make other people suffer at that time.
So, this problem is very serious and strong everywhere in the world now. For that, Dharma practice is very, very important.
If you can become focused on Dharma practice, then you will get many blessings from Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, Gurus, Yidams and Dharma Protectors. You can generate loving kindness and compassion for all living beings, and your selfishness will become less and less.
If you can visualize like a pure land or many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas’ blessings dissolving into you and all living beings, it can cleanse so many of your bad emotions and bad feeling.
Especially when you can relax with meditation, then your crazy mind will become softer and more peaceful slowly.
Then your body can get so much energy automatically, and your mind will become very clear in peace. At that moment, your wisdom, loving kindness, and compassion will become stronger than before.
Such power can cleanse a lot of bad karma and can accumulate a lot of merits.
So this is very important for your health. It is very important for your mind, peace, relaxation, and happiness. It can help all living beings, especially your family members and friends.
Therefore, practicing Dharma moment by moment can really benefit us. It is very useful to us. It can really help us.
So, please do not always become busy with mobile phones or something else. Please do not always become busy with something small or useless. Please try to focus on your Dharma practice.
It is because if we are not careful enough without caring about our crazy mind that jumps with hope, fear, worries, and something else days and nights, our health will be in great danger slowly. You may get cancer.
Some people think that Dharma practice can only be done with monks and nuns in a puja. Some may think that we need to have pujas and play the damarus or other Dharma instruments to practice Dharma.
But it is not like that.
You can practice Dharma yourself because your suffering comes from your bad karma, which comes from your five poisons and bad emotions. All of five poisons come from your ignorance.
So, who can cut your bad emotions or five poisons, in particular ignorance? It cannot be cut by other monks, nuns, or other people. Only your wisdom, loving kindness and compassion, and Dharma practice can cut your ignorance and five poisons.
So, you will need to focus on your Dharma practice and trust your Dharma practice 100%. It is very important for you to take care of your practice moment to moment.
Therefore, you are very, very lucky to be able to practice Dharma in the morning and evening today.
When you are free, [please] come here. Some students practice Dharma here every evening.
Practicing Dharma in your home is good. But practicing Dharma in your home and here are entirely different.
So, you will choose what is good for you because you love yourself so much.
You always hate your suffering and problems and are upset about them. So, you will check what is good for you.
Okay, thank you so much.
We will try to laugh together.
When you laugh, you will push your bad emotions, bad karma, suffering and sickness [in your body] to outside with the sound of laughter.
After laughing, when you breathe in blessings from Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the 10 directions, especially the Medicine Buddha (today) will dissolve in your body, especially body, speech and mind.
This practice is very important, and there is no need to feel ashamed about it. There is no need to look at other Dharma brothers and sisters. You will need to 100% focus on your visualization with your laughs.
If you can really laugh out loud, it can benefit you so much. If you cannot laugh out loud, you will try to laugh like other people. ‘
Okay, please try.
We will put our two arms up [,as we laugh].
Okay, you will focus 100% on your laughs, pushing your bad energy, suffering, sickness, and five poisons out with your laughs
Okay, please try to relax with meditation.
You will visualize blessings from all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, gurus, yidams, Dharma protectors, Buddha, Dharma, and sangha dissolving into your body, speech, and mind.

Try to cut ego with Dharma practice

So today is Saturday. It is very good that you did the Tara practice.
It is very wonderful that you can do Dharma practice because our crazy mind always jumps to so many things. It is fine for the mind to jump. But it is worse for the mind to jump to the negative side, especially with the five poisons and ego.
Most people think that they need to take care of their ego, thinking that their ego can help them and how they can make their ego happy.
Maybe they think practicing Dharma is for making their ego happy. So, when somebody says some few bad things to your ego, you suffer. No matter how much Dharma you have practiced, your ego is still the same as before. No matter how many holy places you visit, your ego is still the same after you come back. No matter how many teachings you have received and great masters you have met, your ego is still the same as before.
You think your ego is very important for yourself.
If you are thinking this way, then your Dharma practice is totally wrong.
So, what are you doing Dharma practice for? It is for trying to cut your ego.
If you cannot cut your ego, but if you can try to cut your ego, then it is already good enough.
If your ego is very strong and you think ego is very dangerous to yourself, and you would like to make your ego to become lighter, then your Dharma practice is already wonderful.
Therefore, you need to practice Dharma purely and then try to cut your ego.
Every day, pray to Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, Gurus, Yidams, and Dharma Protectors may they bless you for cutting your ego.
We dedicate [the merits of our practice] to all living beings to become Buddhas. That means our dedication is for all living beings to be able to cut their egos.
So, trying to cut the ego is the main point and is very important. Please do not forget about this important teaching.

How to regain peace and happiness from a busy life

So today is Sunday.
It is very wonderful that all of you can come here to join the Chod puja.
So, we need so many things for our life. But our crazy mind never thinks ‘enough’, no matter how much we have.
In the past, we did not have any cars, trains, planes, television sets, mobile phones, and the Internet.
If anyone needed to go to a place at that time, some would ride a horse; some would ride a donkey. But most people just walked to different places.
At that time, people would send letters. Then it might take some months or even some years for the letters to reach the places that were very far away.
Right now, there are so many technologies, airplanes, trains, buses, and cars.
But our crazy mind needs more and more things no matter how much we have. We have so many things, making us very busy. When we have too many things, our body and mind become very tired as well.
No matter how busy you have become, you still need more things, and your job can never end. It is never finished.
So, when you become too busy and work too hard, then you lose your happiness and peace for relaxation. You lose your comfort.
But this crazy mind continues to jump, and you cannot rest for even a minute. It always needs to jump and think.
So, Dharma practice becomes very, very important in this time that is full of big problems.
When you arrive at a Dharma center, you start with taking refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha and generate loving kindness, compassion, and bodhichitta for all living beings.
You change your focus from your job and all your thoughts onto Dharma practice and try to relax with Dharma practice without any hope and fear.
You just try to relax doing meditation. Then this crazy mind slowly becomes calm and you can become peaceful and relaxed. It also brings so much good energy to your body and mind.
This can cleanse a lot of bad karma and make a lot of good karma.
Therefore, it is very, very amazing and meaningful that you can practice Dharma. You are also very, very lucky to be able to practice Dharma.
So, please do not forget to practice Dharma.
Take care of your Dharma practice. Trust and believe in your Dharma practice.

Importance of Wisdom Light Office

Hello! Good evening, everyone!
Thank all of you so much for coming over to join the puja, and particularly those many Dharma brothers and sisters who take care of the Wisdom Light Office.
Many Dharma brothers and sisters have followed Buddhadharma for many years. They have met many great masters and received many teachings and empowerments. They started and did a bit of the four-foundation practice. After that, most of them stopped the four-foundation practice without being able to continue.
We opened the Wisdom Light Office, and then many students started practicing the four foundations. Many students have finished the four-foundation practice. Some students have started practicing the four foundations for another time. Some have finished it for the second time, and some have started practicing it for the third time, too. So, the Wisdom Light Office is very, very important for Dharma practice.
We have many students in the Wisdom Light Office sponsoring the big project in Martam. So, the Wisdom Light Office is very important to the project in Martam too.
We gave out lucky bags to the elderly many times. For that reason, the Wisdom Light Office is very, very important for giving out the lucky bags.
Now, the world’s environment has so many problems, while the trees are very important to the world. So, the Wisdom Light Office is very important for planting trees during the birthday of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje as well.
We did many big life releases for the fish. So, the Wisdom Light Office is very important to improve the very poor situation of many fish.
Hong Kong is very busy, and the families of some Dharma brothers and sisters have so many problems, too. So, whoever is free can come to the Wisdom Light Office, such as during lunch breaks and after work. They can do Dharma practice and rest in the Wisdom Light Office. So, the Wisdom Light Office is very important for the students.
Most Hong Kong people are very, very busy every day. So, whoever needs to practice Dharma and whoever has good karma to practice it, can practice in the Wisdom Light Office every evening. During those times, they can get so much blessings, energy, peace, and relaxation. So, the Wisdom Light Office is very important for all Dharma brothers and sisters.
The Wisdom Light Office was opened in 2020, and we are now in 2025. Most of the time, there were no rinpoches, khenpos, or lamas here. But many students have come over to practice every evening and practice the four foundations in the Wisdom Light Office.
Why? It is because many Dharma brothers and sisters care about the Wisdom Light Office. They help and take care of the Wisdom Light Office, so it can continue to run for many years.
But Dharma brothers and sisters are human beings who have so many problems and bad emotions. The Wisdom Light Office sometimes certainly has some problems with Dharma brothers and sisters.
When that happens, you focus on the problem, think about the problem, and talk about the problem without caring about the importance of the Wisdom Light Office or thinking about its benefits and positive side. So, is the problem or the care of the Wisdom Light Office more important to us?
Taking care of this Wisdom Light Office is very important. Why?
It is because it is very important to Buddhadharma. It is very important to all living beings. It is very important to the Dharma practice of many Dharma brothers and sisters.
For example, Milarepa practiced Buddhadharma very hard, living in the mountains without any food, clothes, or friends. Why? It is because Dharma practice was very, very important to him and all living beings.
But many ignorant and stupid people thought Milarepa was very poor because he did not have any food or clothes, and he had nothing. They thought and talked that he was the poorest person, the most stupid person, and a person who suffered the most in the world. Many people asked him to stop doing retreats in the mountains, go to work, and enjoy his life. They asked him not to stay in the mountains like that.
Then Milarepa replied to them, ‘No, I am not stupid. All of you are stupid. You laugh and enjoy yourself with your family by eating some food all the time. But this relaxation and happiness is very short, and you do so much bad karma every day. Then, when you die, you will go to hell or to the hungry ghost realm. But you are still thinking you are happy and can enjoy your life. That is your ignorance and stupidity.
I can do Dharma practice every day and become enlightened. What I am doing is the best in the world. I am the best person in the world. When Buddha sees my mind, he would be happy and rejoice in my Dharma practice.’
Similarly, you work very hard for the Wisdom Light Office and take care of it. Then, when some problems happen, someone says the Wisdom Light Office has lots of problems. You should enjoy [your life]. You should go somewhere. You should go to meet some friends. You should visit some places. You do not need to work that hard. You are stupid. Maybe someone says these to you.
Then another person may say, ‘Oh yes. They have some problems. I want to go far away. I need to do some visits. I want to enjoy some time with my friends and family.’ Maybe some people think like that.
But some people think, ‘Oh yes, the Wisdom Light Office has some problems. But when it comes to Dharma practice, the Wisdom Light Office is very, very important for us.’
Many people can finish the four-foundation practice because of the Wisdom Light Office. I explained many important things that we can do with the Wisdom Light Office.
[Some people may think that,’] If I go somewhere to enjoy [life], then I can no longer do this very important job. So, I would like to take care of the Wisdom Light Office because it is very important for Buddhadharma and all living beings.’
You will check which one is more important for you.
I think it is very important for you to take care of the Wisdom Light Office. I think it is very, very important to continue to practice Dharma in the Wisdom Light Office. It is because this can benefit Buddhadharma and all living beings.
Therefore, I want to say thank very much to all of you who continue to take care of the Wisdom Light Office and do Dharma practice [here]. I think all of you are very, very lucky.
But this is my feeling. Other people may think and feel differently. Maybe some people think and feel differently. I do not know.
So, [please] check this for yourself.

Importance of Dharma practice with regard to a difficult, complicated human being’s life

Today is the Dakini Day. You come [here] to join the Chod puja.
Okay, so the human being’s life is very, very difficult.
For example, animals do not need to cook their food. They eat grass or something else. They eat whatever they can find.
But human beings need different food and different ways of cooking. This has made things very difficult.
Other living beings, such as animals do not need any clothes. What they are naturally endowed with is already good enough. They do not need to wear clothes or something else. When human beings first started living in the jungle, I think they did not wear any clothes either.
So, these are just some examples.
Human beings need so many things. For example, there are many different drinks when it comes to drinking.
So, for that, we need so many things and then need to buy these things. When we need to buy so many things, we need money. So, how can we get the money? We need to work hard for it. For that reason, human beings become very busy because they plan to get so many things.
Human beings look very clever. But actually, they are very stupid.
For example, animals can eat grass without cooking it. They can just relax after eating. They are fine without having any houses [/homes to stay at].
So, things have become so complicated. The mind of human beings has made small things into very big ones.
Those who live in the city are particularly very sensitive. When someone does a slightly different action, their minds can become negative [as a result] and may follow bad emotions very easily.
So, Dharma practice is very, very important in these very difficult situations and time.
Buddha gave teachings asking us to relax our body, speech and mind because we have the Buddha nature.
If we can recognize the nature of mind, then we can get the real happiness and peace. Finally, we can become enlightened.
So, our monkey mind can calm down a bit and jump less to the external environment when we focus on Buddha’s teachings. Then our crazy mind can slowly relax and we can eventually get peace and happiness.
So, Dharma practice is very, very important. It is very, very lucky and meaningful for you to be able to come here to practice Dharma. Therefore, you will focus on your [own] Dharma practice.
When your crazy mind becomes relaxed and peaceful, you can slowly recognize the nature of truth. Then everything becomes a pure land for you.
For example, you are now staying in the Wisdom Light Office. Everyone’s mind has such as the US, Europe, Asia, India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. That means everyone has the whole world [in his or her mind].
So, for example, Buddha Shakyamuni had everything. When he became enlightened, everything he had became a pure land.
Although our mind has this world, we are still in the samara.
So, you are now staying in the Wisdom Light Office and everyone looks like a human being. However, each of our mind’s projections and subjects are totally different. It is because everything comes from our own mind.
You are now seeing the Buddha statues in the Wisdom Light Office. But the Buddha statues that you are seeing are totally different from what others are seeing.
Due to very, very pure, deep devotion towards the Buddha statues, some people can see the statues as blessings and feel that the statues are very powerful.
Maybe there are people thinking the Buddha statues were made in Nepal and their sizes and designs look nice. If they have such thoughts only, it is not easy for them to receive the blessing.
Maybe there are people coming to the Wisdom Light Office without thinking about the Buddha statues, people who are staying here and what other people are doing. Maybe when we check their minds, they look like not having any Buddha statues at all.
For that, everyone can see the Buddha statues. But actually, how everyone sees the Buddha statues is totally different from one person to another.
It is because when some people see the Buddha’s statue, they think Buddha Shakyamuni is so important to all living beings. If Buddha had not given any teaching in the world, right now, it would be in the darkness of ignorance. With this deep devotion, they thank Buddha for his teachings, loving kindness and compassion, and power to enable us to practice Dharma now. They then just look at the face of the Buddha statues with very strong and deep devotion. You cannot explain the feeling at that moment.
After that, they prostrate to and take refuge in Buddha, Dharma and Sangha. They say, ‘today, may I follow and do the same practice as Buddha Shakyamuni did for all living beings in the past.’
If you have such a feeling, then it will become very easy for you to focus on Dharma practice.
You will not have the time to look at what other people are doing and listen to what they are talking about. You will not care because you have become very focused on practicing the Dharma.
There are people who do not care too much about BuddhaDharma. They try just to talk to other Dharma brothers and sisters and care about other things. They hope other people can respect them and talk nicely to them. They do not like other people’s bad actions. They only care about these things. Then it is very easy for them to get into problems.
Therefore, these two situations are totally different.
So, you need to and must care about your pure Dharma practice. It is because if you can do pure Dharma practice every day, then your Dharma practice becomes stronger slowly. Then one day when something happens or during a very difficult time with problems, your mind will be able to relax and be at peace.
Some people say they have been busy with work the whole day and feel very tired, thinking they may not be able to go to the Wisdom Light Office on the day. But then they still try to go to the Wisdom Light Office and focus on practicing Dharma. Slowly, they get the blessing and energy. Then the mind becomes very relaxed and is at peace and they can get a lot of blessings and energy. Then after practicing, they think they have done a very great job on the day by going to the Wisdom Light Office.
So, you need to and must work hard when doing your Dharma practice because it will benefit you a lot.

The meaning of Chod

Hello everyone!
In our situation as human beings, so many problems have happened. The monkey mind of human beings is very, very clever too. It is so clever that most people are very, very selfish. So, most people think about how ‘I’ [they] can be benefited and what is good for ‘me’ [themselves].
Since they think too much about themselves, they forget about other people’s feelings automatically, resulting in problems with other people. As a result, working with human beings in the world has become very, very difficult.
But we [still] need to live in the world.
If we need to buy something, then we need to buy it from human beings. If we need to do some work, then we need to work with human beings. If you have plans for some nice work, you will [still] need to work with human beings. If you need to eat something, you will need to eat with human beings. Therefore, we always have some problems with human beings.
But we have no choice.
[But] Our problems are more than these.
Our monkey mind always jumps with hope, fear, worries, and doubts. So, even if someone is doing very well, our monkey mind cannot believe in them.
Most of the time, we do not have enough chances or time to explain what has happened to each other face-to-face.
Our monkey mind always makes many mistakes, too.
So, therefore, Dharma practice is very, very important.
It is because we need to have loving kindness and compassion for all living beings and a pure visualization when we practice Dharma.
Then we need to think that all phenomena are like dreams and illusions. They all come from our mind. Then slowly, we can focus on the nature of mind, cutting our ego and our selfishness. This is very, very powerful for cleansing the bad feelings and emotions in our crazy minds.
So today you are doing the Chod puja.
‘Chod’ means ‘cutting through’.
What do you need to cut?
You need to cut your bad feelings, ego clinging, selfishness, and the five poisons, which are the afflictions.
So, how can cutting be done?
We have to know that all phenomena come from our mind, and they are our mind’s projections.
So, what is our mind about?
The nature of [our] mind is emptiness.
If you can understand the meaning of these points, then all your bad emotions, selfishness, ego, and ignorance will disappear automatically.
So, this is called ‘cutting through’ or ‘Chod’.
For this reason, you have to focus on doing pure Dharma practice; you do not need to care about other things when practicing.
